Comfort Food

shepherds-pie.jpg  My variation of Shepherd’s Pie.  Ground round beef with carrots and green beans in a gravy and topped with buttery mashed potatoes (damn near as good as my mother’s).  Since the photo I have sampled this and it rocks, if I do say so myself.

This tastes as good as the Eagles beating the Cowboys.  Kind of salvages a bad season and no offense intended towards Dave in Texas.

  1. Looks great.

  2. mmmm…..food!!!

  3. Packers fans: you’re welcome. Although I sure as hell didn’t see the Cowboys losing this game. Westbrook is both smart and unselfish. The Eagles are so lucky to have him on the team.

This was standard chow hall food when I was in the service. Pretty hard for me to mess up so I’m usually happy with the results.

  4. I would say ‘suck it, Pokes’, but i’d be opening myself up to Bronco abuse.

Dude! Don’t tease me with a pic and then not tell me how to make it! At least tell me the oven temp and how long.

I could scarf that whole thing down during an NFL double header.

  5. Ground beef, browned and drained. I put in canned green beans and carrots. Make a gravy. Make however much mashed potatoes you want. I add hot milk and a stick of butter to the potatoes before mashing — almost as good as my mother’s. Put the meat and vegetable mixture in a casserole dish and pour gravy over mixture (Kitchen Bouquet helps me make pretty good gravy). Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cover the meat mixture with the mash potatoes. Put in the oven for about 40 minutes.

    Enjoy.

  6. Did somebody say *cheese* and *real bacon bits*?
    Damn I’m hungry.

  7. Shhhh! If my dogs hear bacon they’ll never leave me alone this afternoon. 😛

I do use the bacon drippings for the gravy. Now I’m starving again and I ate breakfast only four hours ago. LUNCH TIME!!!!

  8. Did I tell you the verdict is in? I’ve decided I hate you for linking this. Good day sir!

  9. Should I tell you how delicious it tastes? No? Are you sure? Okay, then. You’ll just have to use your imagination.

  10. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Curse you!

    *growl growl*

    stupid stomach

  11. Hmmm. What’s for dinner tonight? Film at 11.
